The Punisher 2
Like many of you, I am a Punisher fan. And I am writing Punisher.com
this e-mail to express a thought that more than likely most of you
have been thinking also.

THIS WHOLE SEQUEL TO THE PUNISHER NEEDS TO STOP! The whole idea needs
to be forgotten about. Because before the 2004 movie, I was enjoying
The Punisher where I've known him for years...in the comic books. And
when the movie came out, I was dissapointed in some areas of the
film, but overall I thought it was a fine start to a kick-ass film
franchise.

But now, with all these problems I've been reading about with the
script, Thomas Jane and the handful of directors who either tucked
tail and ran from this movie or were denied the job, I see, and more
than likely the rest of you see that this sequel NEEDS TO STOP! LGF
and Marvel need to forget about The Punisher 2 and forget that a film
franchise about The Punisher was ever attempted. It has gotten so
much negativity, it is even starting to make the comic book look bad
in some ways. This franchise is even making The Punisher look stupid,
which he is not. He is a creative, original and dark character of
Marvel that should be taken just as seriously as Spider-man or The
X-men.

The question, I'm sure that is on everyone's mind is "WHAT THE HELL
IS THE PROBLEM?!!" I have your answer. Marvel and LGF.

First off, Lions Gate handled the first film poorly. It was obviously
given a less than expected budget, a questionable cast and a rushed
script. (These things bring up many questions, like this one: "Is
Marvel just totally selling out to make money anyway they can? Even
if it means making crappy movies about less known characters like The
Punisher just to shove a little extra coin in their pockets?"

Spider-man has three films, with a fourth one in the works. The X-men
have three films with a rumored fourth one in the works. Hell, even
The Fantastic Four have a second movie now. SO WHY THE HELL IS THE
PUNISHER HAVING SUCH A DIFFICULT TIME WITH IT'S SEQUEL??! There's an
answer for that too: All the negativity this film has gotten has
basically scared away any self-respecting director and actor. No one
wants to be within a hundred miles of it. And can you blame them? Can
you blame Thomas Jane? Look at it from the Actors and Directors poinr
of view: " Do I really want to put myself in a movie that has
colleceted so much negativity? Do I really want to take a chance and
have this movie be the downfall or low point of my career?" Believe
it or not, they're people too, and they need to live, make money and
watch out for their best interests just like the rest of us do.

So where does this levae Punisher 2? One word: Fucked. And that is
exactley why this film needs to stop. Marvel should have heard the
death rattle of the sequel when Thomas Jane left. But they insist on
making it happen, even when it looks SO doomed to fail and SO certain
to piss the fans off. And most of this is the fault of Lions Gate.
They obviously have little respect for the character, and would
rather spend more thought on films like "Delta Farce" that will
re-hash the same lame jokes used in the 25 films of it's kind  before
it, fail in the box office, and be easily forgotten in a year. But
here LGF has the rights to The Punisher, a character that could be
banking them in millions if they would have just given it what it
needed to be successful. But they didn't, and that's their loss and
I'll hold a grudge against LGF forever for it.

I love reading and sporting The Punisher, just as you all do. But I
DO NOT want my favorite comic book hero's rep to be destroyed
completley because of shitty writers and a careless film company.

LGF either needs to make the film right, get Thomas Jane back and
ACTUALLY LISTEN TO HIS IDEAS (since his are basically the ones we
want to see on the big screen) or they need to forget about it.
Period. Basically, all of us need to say in one voice to LGF,: "DON'T
FUCK WITH OUR CHARACTER!!"
